Many Neopian legends tell tales of a Gelert's selfless acts of courage. Once you befriend one, you can guarantee you have a faithful pal that will never let you down.

The Gelert is a dog-like species of Neopet, whose name comes from a legendary Welsh dog. Gelerts are distant cousins to the Lupe. They are generally courageous, selfless, faithful, kind, courteous, and brave, much like Gelert, the hunting hound from whom they take their name. They are also easily confused.

The Gelert was originally called the Polypup and released on January 25, 2000. It looked more like a wingless dragon than a dog and had shorter, thicker ears and tail. It also wore a collar, where the current Gelert does not. It was changed into the Gelert, a more greyhound-like creature, on July 19, 2000.

In the Neopets TCG, Gelerts are associated with the element of fire.

As of June 2007, they were ranked 6th in popularity out of 50+ available species. Over 7.9 million have been created.

There are loads of paintbrush colors you can paint them. March 6th is Gelert Day. Some famous Gelerts include Bruno and Kanrik.
